Light Your Life Up

My blog today will be short and sweet. I just wanted to let my dear friends know that April is Autism Awareness month.  I am asking all my friends and family to "Light It Up Blue".  What does that mean you ask? Well, I'll tell ya! I'm asking you to bring Autism Awareness to your community, simply by changing your outdoor light bulbs to a blue bulb, wear blue clothing, wear clothing with a puzzle piece on it, and ask your friends/coworkers to do the same.  Though the dates for "Light It Up Blue" are only April 1st and 2nd, the entire month is dedicated to Autism Awareness.  What's that? How will that help, you ask?  The answer is simple - it starts a conversation.  Many people don't think about Autism because they don't think their lives aren't affected by it.  1 in 150 children are on the Spectrum. The Autism Spectrum ranges from severe in which a child may be nonverbal and may need special care for the rest of their lives, others (like Ben) are more High Functioning.  Right now there is no known cause or cure for Autism, no matter what you may hear from Jenny McCarthy or any other person.  I love my son and wouldn't change him for the world, but if I could help make his life easier, I would in a heartbeat.  The only way that can happen is by finding a cure for Autism and for that we need awareness. Will you help me?

Here's how:

What you can do to Light It Up Blue

  • Wear blue clothing or your Autism Speaks puzzle piece, and encourage your coworkers to do the same.
  • Light your house up blue by putting blue light bulbs in any outdoor fixtures.
  • Raise awareness for Autism online or spread the word about Light It Up Blue.
  • Visit http://www.lightitupblue.org/ for more ways you can help.

If you help me out, send me a picture. I'd love to feature you in my blog!! Thanks guys!
